Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Budget Committee Meeting

On Thursday 23rd June 2022, the budget committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly held its second meeting for the year 2022 at the District’s conference Hall in Akwatia. The objective of the meeting was to discuss and review the 2021 composite budget performance and discuss the Trial Balance for the assembly as at May 2022.

The chairman for the committee and District Coordinating Director for Denkyembour District Assembly; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru welcomed all members of the committee and stated the agenda for the day. He explained that it was very relevant for members of the committee to deliberate on issues concerning the annual composite budget and the trial balance of the assembly.

There was a presentation on the trial balance as at the end of May 2022. Internally Generated Fund (IGF) Revenue at the end of the month stood at GHC 538,136.88 out of the annual budgeted amount of GHC 789,127.50. Expenditure however stood at GHC 530,423.75 as at the end of May 2022. There were further deliberations and discussions amongst members on how to improve revenue collection for the district.

There was a presentation on the 2021 Composite Budget Performance to the members of the committee for members to put it to a review. Some revenue items such as property rates, stool lands revenue, building permits, export of commodities amongst others which were performing well were reviewed upwards. Some of expenditure items such as fuel and lubricants, maintenance of sanitary sites were reviewed upwards as well.

The chairman of the committee also presented items that were ceded to the area councils for collection and urged all members to assist the respective councils in revenue generation in order to improve upon the running of the assembly. He also commended the works sub-committee for embarking on a task force which generated a lot of income for the assembly. He urged them to continue the good work in the ensuing month.

In the closing remarks of the chairman, he expressed his gratitude to all members for taking time to attend the meeting and mentioned that all the views and suggestions from members of the committee would be taken in good faith and worked on.
