Denkyembour District Assembly Holds DPCU Meeting

On Thursday 30th September 2021, the District Planning Coordinating Unit of the Denkyembour District Assembly held a meeting to discuss matters pertinent to the development of the district.
The Chairman for the meeting, Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru welcomed all members to the meeting and mentioned that it was very important to hold such meetings since it was the engine of development of the assembly. He also mentioned that the committee embarked on monitoring of projects within the district and that the second phase of the monitoring will come off soon and urged all members to participate.
After a detailed reading and deliberation of the minutes of the previous meeting, the District Planning Officer; Mr. Mohammed B. Abdulai was tasked to present the draft Medium Term National Development Policy Framework 2022-2025. He began his presentation with an overview of the district’s performance from 2018 to 2021. He mentioned that the district was able to implement 55% of the entire Medium Term Development Plan for 2018-2021. He then presented the details of implementation according the various thematic areas. In Governance, Corruption and Public Accountability, the district had achieved 90% out of the targeted 100% as at the end of 2020. Also under Environment, Infrastructure and Human Settlement, the district had achieved 70% out of the targeted 100% for road network in good condition.
He further went on to present on the 2022-2025 draft Medium Term Development Plan. He stated that, the district has a projected population of 108,033 as at the end of 2025. He also mentioned that the district projects about 109 doctors in the various health facilities due to the projected population. He also stated that the district would require about 92 classrooms in the various schools by the end of 2025. He also presented on development dimensions of the medium-term development plan. The six new dimensions comprised Economic Development; Social Development, Environment, Infrastructure and Human Settlements; Governance, Corruption and Public Accountability; Emergency Planning and Response, including COVID-19 Recovery and the Implementation, Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation.
He lastly presented on the 2022 Annual Action Plan for the district. He mentioned the central government had not released any District Assembly Common Fund for the year and that not even a single project for the year 2021 had been executed. He then mentioned that all of the plan for 2021 had been carried forward to 2022. These plans covered areas of Agriculture, Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Community Development, Central Administration, Disaster Management amongst others.
All the departments in the district presented their progress reports for the third quarter for 2021. Departments present were Education, National Commission for Civic Education, Natural Disaster and Management Organization, Social Welfare and Community Development, Statistics, Agriculture, Fire Services, Health, Human Resources, Works and the budget unit.
The District Coordinating Director, in his closing remarks expressed his gratitude to all members for attending the meeting and urged all members to keep on doing the good work to promote the image of the district.
