Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Executive Committee Meeting

As mandated in the Local Governance Act to co-ordinate the plans and programmes of the sub-committees and submit these as comprehensive plans of action to the District Assembly and to oversee the administration of the district in collaboration with the office of the District Chief Executive and make recommendations on stated grounds to the appropriate Ministry, Department or Agency, for the appointment and replacement of officers for departments outside the control of the District Assembly, the Executive Committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly met on 28th September 2021 at the district’s Assembly Hall.

The District Chief Executive for the district; Honourable Seth Ofosu Birikorang in his introductory remarks expressed his gratitude to all members for attending the meeting in such short notice. He also expressed his gratitude to all members for playing a key role in the just ended 37th National Farmers’ Day Celebration.

The reports from the various sub-committees were presented to the house.

The Sports and Culture sub-committee recommended to the assembly to purchase some table tennis boards to the five educational circuits within the assembly to enhance sports development within the district.

The Finance and Administration Sub-committee and works sub-committee presented issues pertaining to the improvement of revenue collection especially building permit and property rates within the district.

There were also recommendations from the Justice and Security sub-committee and Social Services sub-committee which stressed on improving security within the district by the provision of streetlights.

Recommendations from the Development Planning sub-committee included the purchase of a rice milling machine for the assembly.

The Environmental sub-committee also recommended that the assembly sanction slaughter houses within the district that burn lorry tyres to process meat.

In other matters, the District Coordinating Director; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru mentioned that, there were no irregularities sited in the report in relation to Denkyembour District Assembly. He further stated that the Auditor General’s position on the district was satisfactory and commended the assembly to continue with the good works to lift up the image of the district.

The District Chief Executive in his closing remarks expressed gratitude to all members and heads of departments for attending the meeting. He also informed the members that all recommendations would be taken to the general assembly for further deliberations and approval.
