Denkyembour District Assembly Inaugurates District Education Oversight Committee

On Wednesday 15th December 2021, the District Education Oversight Committee of the Denkyembour District was inaugurated at the District Assembly Hall. The committee which is mandated by the Education Act, 2008 (Act 778) is to ensure that the conditions of school buildings and any other infrastructural requirement are overseen. Also, the committee is responsible for overseeing the proper performance of functions by staff at the various schools within the district and also oversee the supply of teaching materials to the schools. One important function of the committee is to also oversee the environmental cleanliness of the schools, lands and other educational facilities.

The District Chief Executive for the Denkyembour District Assembly; Honorable Seth Birikorang Ofosu took the committee through the oath and swore them into office. The committee comprises, the chairman, the District Director for Education who is the secretary, the District Director for Health, the District Social Welfare officer, One representative of the District Assembly who is a woman, one representative of the traditional rulers on the district, one representative if the religious bodies, one representative of the association of teachers in the district, one representative of the district Parent-Teacher Association, one representative of the school management committee, one woman identified generally with social development and one representative of the private schools in the district.

The District Chief Executive urged all the members to work diligently in the discharge of their duties in order to lift up the face of education within the district.
