Denkyembour District Assembly holds Executive Committee (EXECO) Meeting.

On Thursday 8th October 2020, the Denkyembour District Assembly under the leadership of the District Chief Executive; Honourable Seth Ofosu Birikorang, held an Executive Committee meeting at the assembly’s conference hall.

In the opening remarks of the Chairman; Honourable Seth Ofosu Birikorang, he welcomed all the assembly members, chair persons for the various sub-committees, heads of departments and heads of units for making attending the meeting. He also gave a brief report on the visit of the President in the District on Sunday 3rd October 2020. He stated to the house that, the President of the Republic, together with the Senior Minister, Minister for Roads and the Eastern Regional Minister. The purpose of their visit was to inspect the Wenchi and Akwatia town roads and also cut sod for the construction of two-Storey dormitory block and a dining hall at the Akim-Takrowase Day Senior High School. He finally stated that, the president ended his visit with a grand durbar with chiefs, stakeholders and the people of Akwatia.

The District Budget Analyst; Mr Eric Eshun was called upon to brief the house on the 2021 composite budget. He gave a presentation on the various areas being budgeted on in the 2021 composite budget. Major programs and projects being budgeted on include Management and Administration, Social Services such as Education, Youth and Sports, Environmental Health, Sanitation, Social Welfare and Community Services. There were budget allocations on Infrastructure Development, Economic Development which includes Agriculture, Trade, Disaster Prevention and Sanitation. Some major infrastructural projects being budgeted for include supply, fixing and maintenance of streetlights, drilling of mechanized boreholes, reshaping of roads and construction of culverts in selected communities among others.

The various reports from the sub-committees were presented to the house. The Finance and Administration sub-committee presented their report. They recommended in their report that the assembly should improve upon the collection of burial fees in the district. Also, they recommended an increase in allowance for subsequent Executive Committee (EXECO) meetings and Public Relation and Compliance Committee (PRCC) meetings. The also expressed their concern on the Ex-Gratia Payment to the previous administration and recommended that management take immediate steps to remedy the solution. They also suggested to management to take the necessary actions to ensure that Ghana Consolidated Diamond Limited honour their tax obligations owed them. They finally recommended to management to supply the Works and Physical Planning Department with motor bikes to help them in effective and efficient revenue mobilization.

The Works sub-committee was also invited to present their report. They recommended that some roads be reshaped and some potholes on the main Boadua-Apinamang road be fixed urgently. They also recommended the assembly to fix streetlights in some communities and construct concrete culverts in communities such as Sadams, Boadua and Amega near Kusafitaa.

The Justice and Security Sub-committee also presented their report to the house. They suggested an extension of electricity to Topremang New Site. They also recommended to the assembly to renovate the CHPS centre in Yawaso. They also recommended to the assembly to construct speed ramps on some roads in the district.

The Social Services sub-committee also presented their report. In their presentation, they suggested that the assembly drill boreholes at Okumaning CHPS centre, Bredu and Kwabena Amoa to enable easy access to water. The committee also recommended to the Assembly to continue the distribution of veronica buckets, liquid soaps, bottles of hand sanitizers and rolls of tissue to the various communities.

Report of Sports and Culture Sub-committee was also presented to the house. They recommended to the assembly establish a District Culture Unit and facilitate the formation of District’s Under 17 male and female soccer colts.

The Development Planning sub-committee was also called upon to present their report. During their presentation, they recommended to the assembly to work in collaboration with the University of Ghana to establish the tourist site at Okumaning. They also recommended to the assembly to facilitate the distribution of the oil palm seedlings being nursed at Okumaning. They also recommended to the assembly to purchase a milling machine for rice farmers, establish a veterinary clinic for the Agriculture Department and support the agriculture department to provide 5 beehives for farmers as alternative livelihood.

The last sub-committee to present their report was the Environmental sub-committee. In their presentation, they recommended to the assembly to undertake public education on a new dog disease that has arisen at Dwenase and its environs. They also recommended to management to renovate the District Health Environmental Health Unit Office in Akwatia. They also recommended to management to set up a task force to aid in burying paupers and also help arrest stray animals in the various electoral areas.

In other matters, the Director for Education announced to the house, the receipt of some PPEs and hand washing equipment for all SHS 2 and JHS 2 students from the Ghana Education Service. The Director for Health also encouraged all the members present to participate in the ongoing polio vaccination exercise.

The District Chief Executive expressed his gratitude to all members for attending the meeting and announced to the house on the upcoming General Assembly Meeting.
