Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Finance and Administration Sub-Committee Meeting

On Thursday 24th March 2022, the Finance and Administration sub-committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly which is mandated to discuss issues pertaining to finance and revenue generating policies of the district held their first sub-committee meeting for the year 2022. Main objectives of the meeting were to discuss the 2021 composite budget performance and the trial balance of the district assembly as at end of February 2022.

The meeting began with an introductory remark from the chairman of the committee; Honourable Reynolds Marfo. He expressed his gratitude to all members for taking time to attend the meeting and to discuss pertinent issues of the district. He also expressed gratitude to assembly members and members of the committee who joined staff of the assembly to undertake revenue collection in the previous month.

There was a presentation on the 2021 Composite Budget Performance to the members of the committee. It was presented that total budgeted IGF for the year 2021 stood at GHC 1,124,125.55 out of which GHC 930,112.07 was realised, representing 83%. These revenue items included property rates, licenses, investment income, fees, building permits, fines, rental of assembly stores amongst others.

There was also a presentation on the trial balance as at the end of February 2022. Internally Generated Fund (IGF) Revenue at the end of the month stood at GHC 87,747.74 out of the annual budgeted amount of GHC 789,127.50. Expenditure however stood at GHC 90,108.11 as at the end of February 2022. There were further deliberations and discussions amongst members on how to improve revenue collection for the district.

The chairman for the committee also stated that, there were some revenue items that had been ceded to the various area and urban councils to generate on behalf of the assembly. He then presented those revenue items to members of the committee upon which further deliberations were made by members.

The chairman’s concluding remarks centred on expressing gratitude to members for staying in and giving their respective inputs in the meeting. He also relayed to members that matters of increase in allowances for sub-committee meetings, committee meetings and general assembly meetings would be extensively looked at during the mid-year budget review of the assembly.
