Denkyembour District Assembly Commemorates Green Ghana Day

As part of efforts to plant over 20 million trees nationwide, the Denkyembour District Assembly held a ceremony to commemorate the annual Green Ghana Day initiative on Friday 10th June 2022 at the forecourt of the Akwatia District Police Station. The purpose of the exercise was to replace all trees that has been cut down for use in the country.
The District Police Commander for Denkyembour; ACP Asare Nyarko was called upon to address the ceremony. He expressed his appreciation to the government for bringing such an initiative to plant trees nationwide. He stated that it was important to do so in order to maintain our vegetative cover as a country. He however urged everyone to take good care of any tree that would be planted in their various communities.
The Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency; Honourable Henry Boakye Yiadom was called upon to also address the ceremony. He stated that the initiative was a very good initiative by the government and everyone should take advantage of this opportunity to green their environment and communities. He lastly explained that for us to survive as humans, we need to take a conscious effort to plant a lot of trees and green our environment.
The District Chief Executive; Honourable Seth Ofosu Birikorang at the ceremony explained the importance of such an exercise to the development of the country. He stated that felling of trees has caused to a larger extent, the change in weather conditions nowadays in our country. It was therefore important to plant trees to maintain the environment. He also stated that the district received 2000 tree seedlings out of which 500 of them would be planted at the Akwatia Police station and 200 seedlings taken to Takrowase Senior High School to be planted. He also mentioned that anyone who wishes to plant trees at their various localities should contact the District Assembly office of the Forestry Commission for free seedlings in order to beautify our environment. He lastly expressed his gratitude to all opinion leaders, assembly members, unit committee members, chiefs and all people for gracing the ceremony with their presence.
The team moved to Takrowase Senior High School to plant 200 seedlings as announced by the DCE after which the team had planted about 500 seedlings at the Akwatia Police station.
