Denkyembour District Assembly Inaugurates Area Councils

Four Area Councils within the Denkyembour District have been inaugurated on Wednesday 14th April 2021 and Thursday 15th April 2021 with a call on members to work towards the implementation of the local governance and decentralization policies. Members were also entreated to be conversant with the legal and regulatory frameworks governing local governance to enable them function effectively.

The Area Councils inaugurated included the Mmo-Dwenase Area Council, Okumaning Area Council, Oseawuo Area Council and Akwatia Urban Council.

In a speech delivered by the District Planning Officer; Mr. Abdullai Baba Mohammed on behalf of the District Chief Executive, stated that the District Assembly cannot function efficiently without effective, functional and reliable sub-structures. He charged members to spearhead the social, economic and political change they wish to see by communicating clearly and to put aside their political, ethnic and personal sentiments in order to serve the people in accordance with the laid-down rules. He also promised the Assembly’s support and training for them to function properly in order to deepen democracy and strengthen local participation of the local governance system and also to ensure development.

Unit Committee Members / Area Council Members swore the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, giving them the legal backing for their operations.

Present at the various ceremonies were the District Planning Officer; Mr. Abdullai B. Mohammed, the District Engineer; Mr. Davor Wonder, the District Information Officer; Mr. Elvis Offei-Bekoe and staff of the Planning Unit of the Denkyembour District Assembly.
