Meeting with Heads of Basic Schools over Re-opening

On Thursday 21st January 2021, the District Education Service organized a meeting with all heads of basic and Junior High Schools in the Denkyembour district. The purpose of the meeting was to educate the heads on COVID situation in the district. The heads were also educated on some guidelines and new directives for reopening of schools.

The District Director for Education; Mr Thomas Tsorhe Moore, addressed the meeting and welcomed all participants. He gave a brief speech on some changes in the educational system. He stated that, every school had been mapped with a health facility in order to report cases of suspected COVID-19. He also urged all the heads of institutions to observe all COVID protocols in their various schools. He also informed the heads that screening would be done for all new entrants of the schools.

The District Health Director; Mr Daniel Derby was also called upon to give a brief address on the state of COVID. He gave a global, continental and national overview of COVID, stating the total cases, deaths, recovered cases and active cases. He also stated that, out of 1078 samples taken in the Denkyembour district, 81 were tested positive. However, 76 of them had recovered with 5 deaths. He educated the participants on the symptoms of COVID and some of the preventive measures such as wearing of face masks, washing of hands, observing physical distancing and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

The District Director for Education expressed his gratitude to all participants and heads of departments for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend such an important meeting.
