Denkyembour District Assembly Engages Stakeholders over Preparation of 2022-2025 Medium Term Development Plan

On Tuesday 7th September 2021 and Wednesday 8th September 2021, the Denkyembour District Assembly organised a stakeholder meeting to ascertain the needs of the people of the district towards the preparation of the 2022-2025 Medium Term Development Plan. The meeting sought to seek the views of leaders of the various communities within the district and to determine their main needs in order to inculcate it into the Medium-Term Development Plan 2022-2025.
The team from the Denkyembour District Assembly led by the District Planning Officer; Mr. Abdulai Baba Mohammed, began the exercise at the Oseawuo Area Council were opinion leaders, assembly members and unit committee members from Kusi, Soabe, Takrowase and Wenchi gathered at Kusi Durbar Grounds for the exercise.
The Chairman for the Oseawuo Area Council; Honourable Marfo Reynolds gave his introductory remarks and stated the purpose of the meeting. He explained that every 4 years, the assembly organized such meetings to seek the views of all relevant stakeholders on the major needs of the people within the district which can be inculcated in the Medium-Term Development Plan. He urged all participants not to hold back on any view or opinion but should voice out all problems, suggestions, and questions for the development of the district.
The District Director for NCCE; Mr Ernest Kwami Eli Billy was invited to do a brief presentation on the functions of Unit Committee members. He highlighted the main functions. Major functions of the unit committee included liaising with the assembly to improve revenue collection within the district. Another major function included organizing communal labour to clean their respective areas in collaboration with the assembly member and chief of the area. They unit committee also serves as the mouthpiece of the people in the area to alleviate problems and suggestions of the people to the higher authorities.
The team then grouped according to Electoral Areas to take the data on the main development needs of the area. Major amongst the needs were reshaping of roads, construction of toilet facilities, extension of electricity and street lights, construction of classroom blocks and others.
The team moved to Okumaning to ascertain the development needs of the Okumaning Area Council which consists of Okumaning Area Council and ARS electoral area. The Chairman for the area council; Honourable Daniel Twumasi welcomed the team from the Assembly and stated the purpose of gathering after which the data collection exercise was undertaken.
On Wednesday 8th September 2021, the team met with the Akwatia Urban Council at the District Assembly Hall. The Chairman of the Urban Council; Honourable John Osborn Quansah welcomed the team and stated that this stakeholder meeting was very important to ascertain the development needs of all eleven electoral area in the urban council.
The team then proceeded to take the data from all the electoral areas. Major amongst the needs were reshaping of roads, construction of toilet facilities, extension of electricity and street lights, construction of classroom blocks and others.
In the closing remarks of the chairman, he urged all assembly members and unit committee members to aid in the collection of revenue since the by laws of the assembly had finally been gazetted. He also stated that plans are far advanced to provide all unit committee members with some form of identification in order to aid them in their respective duties.
