Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Spatial Planning Committee Meeting

On 1st June 2022, the Spatial Planning Committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly held a meeting at the District’s Conference Hall for the consideration and approval of development applications that were received within the month. Approval or disapproval of development application which forms part of the mandate of the committee was the main agenda of the meeting.

The District Coordinating Director; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru who stood in for the Chairman for the committee opened by the meeting by expressing his gratitude to all members for making time to attend the meeting. He mentioned that the committee the District Chief Executive who doubles as the chairman for the committee had equally important business to attend to and could not join hence he delegated him to chair the meeting on his behalf. He then mentioned that the committee is an important committee to the assembly because they oversee the approval of development plans that in turn raise revenue for the assembly. He therefore urged the committee to try as much as possible to meet every month as stipulated by the law.

The committee then moved to the main agenda of the day which was approval of development plans within the district for the month. In all, the committee received 10 applications that were spread across the length and breadth of the district. After deliberations and discussions of the plans, members approved 9 applications and deferred 1 application for further investigations about the land on which the development would be made.

The District Physical Planner; Mr Opoku Agyeman also took the house through update on the development of street naming and property addressing system. He projected the pictorial evidence of some towns where the maps had been developed. He then mentioned that it was very capital intensive and would urge management to provide funds for the completion of the project which will in turn generate a lot of revenue for the assembly.

The District Coordinating Director, in other business, congratulated the works sub-committee for embarking on a task force exercise which generated a lot of revenue. He then urged them to continue with the exercise periodically. He also advised them to give out their work plan to management so that some form of motivation could be given to the members of the taskforce. He then expressed his gratitude to all members for taking time to attend the meeting.
