St Dominic Roman Catholic Basic School in Akwatia Visits Denkyembour District Assembly

On Thursday 17th March 2022, St. Dominic Roman Catholic Basic School in Akwatia paid a visit to Denkyembour District Assembly to learn about local government system in Ghana. The students were final year students of the school and was very necessary to have a practical feel of the topic that had been learnt in class under Social Studies.
The students were led by Mr Jackson Tei Kofi; a social studies student of the school and Miss Sabina Dosu, a teacher of the school and the national most outstanding teacher in 2020. They were welcomed by the District Coordinating Director; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru and the Head of the Human Resource Department; Mr Benjamin Kwame Livingbird.
The District Coordinating Director made the presentation on the Local Government System of Ghana. His presentation highlighted on the overview of local government system, structure and composition of the Local Government System, personnel and functions of the local government system, general functions of the district assembly, sources of funds of the district assembly, the various committees of the assembly and challenges and limitations of the district assembly.
The students were also given a tour to all the various departments of the assembly where the core functions of all departments were reiterated to the students. The District Chief Executive for Denkyembour District Assembly; Honourable Seth Birikorang Ofosu also welcomed the students and teachers and urged all the students to learn hard and pass out with flying colours in order to benefit from the Free Senior High School policy from the government.
Mr Jackson Tei Kofi, on behalf of the students, expressed his gratitude to the District Coordinating Director and the entire assembly at large for their support and education on the topic.
