Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Spatial Planning Committee Meeting

On Thursday 4th April 2024, the Spatial Planning Committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly held a meeting at the District’s Conference Hall for the consideration and approval of development applications that were received by the District Physical Planning Department. Approval or disapproval of development application forms part of the mandate of the committee was the main agenda of the meeting.
The District Chief Executive; Honorable Seth Birikorang Ofosu, the Chairman for the committee opened by the meeting by expressing his gratitude to all members for making time to attend the meeting. He then mentioned that the committee is an important committee to the assembly because they oversee the approval of development plans that in turn raise revenue for the assembly. He therefore urged the committee to try as much as possible to meet every month as stipulated by the law.
The committee then moved to the main agenda of the day which was approval of development plans within the district for the month. In all, the committee received 18 applications that were spread across the length and breadth of the district. After deliberations and discussions of the plans, members approved 5 applications, conditionally approved 12 applications pending various corrections and additions and rejected 1 application.
In other business, the District Works Engineer informed that committee that further consultations and sensitization should be done for all traditional rulers within the district to encourage their people about the need to apply for building permit.
The District Physical Planning Officer; Mr. Manfred Afram also presented some challenges the department faced to the committee. Major amongst them were the lack of a van for activities of the department and fake stamps from private architects within the district. The District Chief Executive assured them of provision of a dedicated vehicle for development control and their day to day activities.
The District Chief Executive, in his closing remarks, congratulated the development control unit for embarking on a task force exercise which generated a lot of revenue. He then urged them to continue with the exercise periodically. He also advised them to give out their work plan to management so that some form of motivation could be given to the members of the taskforce. He then expressed his gratitude to all members for taking time to attend the meeting.
