Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Social Services Sub-committee Meeting

On Tuesday 18th July 2023, the Social Services Sub-committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly met to deliberate on issues concerning health and education within the district. The sub-committee is mandated to discuss social issues within the district and make appropriate recommendations on challenges on social issues within the district.

The chairperson for the sub-committee; Honorable Eunice Appiah welcomed all members of the sub-committee to the meeting and expressed her gratitude to members for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the meeting. She then took the house through reading of the previous minutes which was accepted as a working document of the sub-committee after deliberations and corrections.

The District Director of Health; Mr. Daniel Derby led the discussion on the utility bills of the various health facilities within the district. He mentioned that the Health Directorate was finding it difficult to pay the utility bills of the CHPS centers and suggested that the various leaders of the communities aid in the payment of these bills.

The Chairperson also led the discussion on distribution of mono desks to the schools and also some deplorable school structures within the district. It was discussed that some school buildings within the district especially Dwenase were very deplorable which needed rapt attention of the District Assembly. It was also added that the assembly distributed mono desks in the past years but some of the distributions had never reached communities such as Apinamang. It was recommended that schools which had not received some mono desks in the past years should be looked at in any future distributions.

The committee also agreed to monitor educational facilities within the district to know their challenges in order to report to management. The committee agreed to undertake the monitoring on 8th August 2023, pending the availability of funds to undertake the activity.

The chairperson in her closing remarks expressed her gratitude to all members and mentioned that all recommendations would be presented to the Executive Committee for further approval.
