Denkyembour District Assembly Inaugurates Fourth Assembly

The Denkyembour District Assembly marked a significant milestone on Monday, 12th February 2024, as it inaugurated its 4th assembly at the District Assembly Hall in Akwatia. The ceremony, attended by various dignitaries including heads of departments, chiefs, opinion leaders, and members of the community, was a momentous occasion signifying the commencement of a new term for local governance in the district.
The proceedings commenced with the District Coordinating Director; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru, introducing the distinguished guests present at the ceremony. This segment provided an opportunity to acknowledge the presence of esteemed individuals who play crucial roles in the governance and development of the Denkyembour District.
Following the introductions, Honourable Seth Birikorang Ofosu; the District Chief Executive delivered a warm welcome address, setting the tone for the rest of the proceedings. In his speech, he highlighted the significance of the occasion and outlined the priorities and objectives for the new assembly term, emphasizing the commitment to serving the needs of the community. He encouraged them to work assiduously and efficiently for the assembly and also aid in revenue mobilization for the assembly. He lastly urged them to carry the good message of the assembly to their respective electoral areas.
The focal point of the inauguration was the swearing-in of both elected and appointed assembly members. This solemn moment, presided over by a Magistrate; His Worship George Davis K. Ofori, symbolized the official assumption of duties and responsibilities by the assembly members, who pledged to serve the district with integrity and diligence. They took the oath of office and oath of secrecy.
A notable highlight of the ceremony was the address delivered by the representative of the President. Due to the unavailability of the President’s representative, the District Coordinating Director read the address on her behalf, conveying the government’s message and vision for local governance and development in the Denkyembour District. He congratulated all elected and appointed members of the assembly and wished them well in their tenure of office. He mentioned to the newly sworn-in members of the assembly that good governance entailed active participation of the entire citizenry in the development process. He then encouraged members to create platforms for frequent community engagements, community durbars and other digitalized citizens’ engagement tools that would enhance the relationship between duty bearers and the citizens.
The second part of the program focused on the election of the Presiding Member, a crucial position responsible for chairing assembly meetings and facilitating decision-making processes. Led by the District Electoral Commissioner, the election process involved multiple rounds of voting. However, neither Honorable Nana Kwame Adarkwa nor Honourable Eugene Acheampong attained two-thirds majority for election. Consequently, the election was adjourned to allow for further deliberations and voting within a specified timeframe of 10 working days.
The District Coordinating Director who also doubles as the Secretary of the Assembly expressed is profound gratitude to all members, distinguished guests and the general public for attending the ceremony and wished everyone well.
