AROCHA Ghana Organizes Workshop on Integrated Land Use Management Planning for Climate Change Resilience

On Thursday 30th March 2023, a one-day workshop on Integrated Land Use Management Planning for Climate Resilience within the Atewa Landscape was conducted in the Denkyembour District Assembly. The workshop aimed to discuss the scope of integrated land use planning towards climate resilience, livelihood, and community wellbeing in the Denkyembour District, as well as the opportunities for integrated land use management towards achieving climate resilience and sustainability. Furthermore, the workshop aimed to bridge the gaps between the different land uses within the district to ensure sustainable land use practices.
The District Coordinating Director; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru welcomed all participants and the team from AROCHA Ghana and expressed his gratitude to them for organization such an important workshop. He mentioned it was necessary to engage stakeholders on climate change and its related issues which would go a long way to have a positive impact on our environment.
The first topic of discussion, which was taken by the District Development Planning Officer; Mr Mohammed Baba Abdulai, was the scope of integrated land use planning towards climate resilience, livelihood, and community wellbeing in the Denkyembour District. The speaker emphasized the importance of integrating land use planning towards achieving sustainable development and ensuring the wellbeing of communities in the district and also emphasized the various uses of land within the Denkyembour District. He added a presentation on the district profile which highlighted the mission, vision, objectives and various sectors of the district economy.
There was discussion on the overview and opportunities for integrated land use management towards achieving climate resilience and sustainability by the Deputy National Director for AROCHA Ghana, Mr Daryl Bosu. The speakers highlighted the importance of integrated land use management in promoting sustainable development and climate resilience within the district. Participants were informed of the various opportunities available for integrating land use planning with climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, including agroforestry, sustainable land use practices, and renewable energy.
Mr Daryl Bosu also took participants through bridging the gaps between the different land uses within the district. The speakers emphasized the need for stakeholder engagement and collaboration to promote sustainable land use practices within the district. Furthermore, participants were encouraged to explore ways of mitigating the conflicts that arise between different land uses, such as agriculture, mining, and conservation.
The workshop included a breakout session where participants discussed how the various land uses within the district conflict with each other. The session aimed to identify ways of mitigating these conflicts and promoting sustainable land use practices. Participants were encouraged to engage in dialogue and identify areas of compromise to promote sustainable development within the district.
In conclusion, the one-day workshop on Integrated Land Use Management Planning for Climate Resilience within the Atewa Landscape was a success. The discussions centred on the importance of integrated land use planning in promoting sustainable development and climate resilience within the Denkyembour District. The participants identified various opportunities for integrating land use planning with climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, and explored ways of mitigating the conflicts that arise between different land uses. The workshop provided a platform for stakeholder engagement and collaboration towards promoting sustainable land use practices within the district.
