Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Budget Committee Meeting

On Wednesday 7th February 2024, the Budget Committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly held its first meeting for the year 2024 at the District’s conference Hall in Akwatia. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the 2023 composite budget performance and trial balance.

The District Budget Analyst; Mr. Samuel Oppong Ampoma stood in for the chairman of the committee who also doubles as the District Coordinating Director for Denkyembour District Assembly; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru. He welcomed all members of the committee and stated the agenda for the day. He explained that it was very relevant for members of the committee to deliberate on issues concerning the annual composite budget and the trial balance of the assembly.

There was a presentation on the performance of revenue for the year 2023. The total approved budget from all fund sources for the year 2023 was GHC 10,665,663.78 out of which GHC 7,998,673.13 was achieved representing 75%.

For Internally Generated Funds, a total of GHC 1,521,090.00 was approved during the 2023 mid-year budget review out of which GHC 1,350,499.31 was achieved for the year representing 89%. However, the assembly for the same period expended GHC 1,366,276.65 representing 90% of the budgeted amount. The best performing revenue items within the year 2023 were Support Transfer from Stool lands, Building Permits, Business Operating Licenses, Conveyance Fees, Property Rates, and Market Tolls whiles the worst performing revenue items were also mobile sales van, mineral water, NGOs/FBOs and pounds.

Measures to increase revenue in existing performing revenue items and non performing revenue items were thoroughly discussed in order to increase the revenue for 2023. There was also a discussion on embarking a task force to collect revenue arrears from the previous year. Also, the budget unit of the assembly in collaboration with other officers had embarked on a data collection exercise which saw the collection of data of all businesses in Akwatia and Boadua. The billing of BOPs, Basic Rate and temporal structure permits envisaged an amount of GHC 330,000.00 for the year 2024.

In the closing remarks of the acting chairman, he expressed his gratitude to all members for taking time to attend the meeting and mentioned that all the views and suggestions from members of the committee would be taken in good faith and worked on.
