Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Development Planning Sub-Committee Meeting

On Wednesday, 12th June 2024, the Development Planning Sub-committee held its first meeting at the District Conference Hall. The meeting commenced at 10:00 AM with an opening address by the District Coordinating Director.

The meeting commenced with the election of the Chairperson for the Development Planning Sub-Committee. Nominations were solicited, and the committee members elected Honorable Daniel Twumasi as the Chairperson through a majority vote. Following the election, the District Coordinating Director administered the oath of office to the newly elected Chairperson and other committee members. This formalized their roles and responsibilities within the sub-committee.

Honorable Daniel Twumasi, the newly elected Chairperson, delivered his acceptance remarks. He expressed his gratitude for the confidence placed in him by the members and outlined his commitment to steering the sub-committee towards achieving its objectives. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and proactive planning in the district’s development initiatives.

The Assistant Planning Officer, Mr Edmund Akakpo, conducted a sensitization session on the duties and responsibilities of the sub-committee. He highlighted the key functions, including the formulation of development plans, monitoring and evaluation of projects, and ensuring community participation in the planning process. She also stressed the need for members to be familiar with the district’s development policies and frameworks.

The Assistant Planning Officer, Mr Edmund Akakpo, led a detailed discussion on the projects outlined in the Annual Action Plan. He provided an overview of ongoing projects, focusing on their objectives, timelines, and expected outcomes. Key projects discussed included infrastructure development, educational improvements, and healthcare enhancements. Some major projects discussed were the Renovation of school block into teachers quarters with kitchen and washrooms in each apartment which was 70% complete, Construction of 1No 24 unit lockable stores at Akwatia Lorry Park which was 90% complete, Construction of Apinamang Durbar grounds which was 40% complete, Construction if 3 unit classroom block at Sika ne Asem which was 80% complete and the Construction of Anweaso CHPS compound which was 70% complete.

Honorable Daniel Twumasi, in his closing remarks, thanked all members for their active participation and valuable contributions during the meeting. He reiterated the importance of their roles in the district’s development planning process and urged them to remain committed and diligent in their duties. He also expressed optimism about the successful implementation of the discussed projects.
