Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Second District Planning Coordinating Unit Meeting for 2022

The District Planning Coordinating Unit (DPCU) of Denkyembour District Assembly on Thursday 30th June 2022 held its second meeting for the year. Core functions of the DPCU includes the provision of advice to the District Assembly in respect of its planning, programming, monitoring, evaluating and coordinating functions and also the co-ordination of planning activities of the Departments of the District Assembly.

The District Coordinating Director; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru who is the chairman of the DPCU meeting welcomed all members in his introductory remarks. Corrections and discussions emanating from previous minutes were undertaking which was accepted as a working document of the meeting after further deliberations on matters arising from the minutes.

There was a presentation on the District League Table.  The District League Table is a tool that provides an overall assessment of disparities in national development in Ghana and provides a ranking of all 260 districts to determine the most developed and most challenged district across the five sectors on which they are assessed. The objective of the table was to enable government gain better understanding of the status of wellbeing across the districts in the country and also to provide the evidence and basis for more equitable resource allocation and social investment to reduce disparities between districts. It is also to increase social accountability around service delivery between national and local government and citizens.

Indicators that were used as basis for assessment were Education, Heath, Water and Sanitation, Information and Communication Technology and Governance. Out of 260 districts, Denkyembour District was ranked 189th having a total score of 46.4.

Heads of departments present were also given the opportunity to present their second quarter progress reports including challenges faced them within the period in question. The departments present included Education, Health, Social Welfare and Community Development, Human Resources, Information Services, Environmental Health Unit, Fire Service and Community Water and Sanitation Agency.

The chairman for the meeting in his closing remarks expressed his gratitude to all members for a very lengthy but fruitful meeting, especially suggestions from heads of departments concerning revenue generation.
