Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Economic DevelopmentĀ  Sub-committee Meeting

The Economic Development sub-committee meeting of the Denkyembour District Assembly, on Wednesday 17th August 2022, held a meeting at the District Assembly Conference Hall to deliberate on issues of Economic Development relating to the district. The main agenda was to discuss the progress report of all projects of the district as at June 2022 and also discuss the draft composite Annual Action Plan for the year 2023.

The chairman for the sub-committee, Honorable Emmanuel Effah Antwi opened the meeting by welcoming all members of the sub-committee to the meeting. He mentioned in his opening remarks that members should continue with the good works in promoting local economic development within the district. He also congratulated staff for a successful District Assembly Performance Assessment Tool exercise which the district performed very well. He then took members through minutes of the previous meeting which was accepted as a working document for the sub-committee after further corrections, deliberations and discussions.

The District Works Engineer; Mr. Wonder Davor made the presentation of the progress report of all projects within the district as at June 2022. He gave the names, locations, name of contractor, contract sum, funding source, and date of commencement, date of completion, status and level of completion of about 33 projects that were within the district. Projects that were highlighted were the construction of a 6-unit classroom block at Boadua and the construction of a multi-purpose durbar grounds at Takrowase which were new projects funded by the DDF. He also mentioned that a project such as a 2-No 5-unit toilet facility for decentralized departments was terminated and re-awarded to different contractor.

The District Planning Officer; Mr Mohammed Baba Abdulai was invited to present the draft Annual Action Plan for 2023. He mentioned that, the Annual Action Plan has been segmented into 6 dimensions which are Economic Development; Social Development, Environment, Infrastructure and Human Settlements; Governance, Corruption and Public Accountability; Emergency Planning and Response, including COVID-19 Recovery and the Implementation, Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation. He mentioned that majority of the plans for 2022 that were not been implemented for the year had been rolled over to 2023. These plans covered areas of Agriculture, Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Community Development, Central Administration, Disaster Management amongst others.

The sub-committee also discussed issues of how to curtail post-harvest losses by farmers within the district. Mr. Bortey Alabi, an officer from the Agriculture department mentioned that it was necessary for the assembly to provide a storage facility within the district and also support farmers with storage bags that could keep grains for up to three years. He also recommended that the assembly should facilitate the purchase of a rice milling machine and situate it at Akim Wenchi and its environs.

The chairman, in his closing remarks, expressed his gratitude to all members and staff for attending the meeting and mentioned that all recommendations made by members would be carried on to the Executive Committee for further approval at the General Assembly.
