Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Environmental Health Sub-Committee Meeting

On Monday, 10th June 2024, the Environmental Health Sub-committee held its first meeting at the District Assembly Hall. The inaugural meeting of the Environmental Health Sub-Committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly commenced at 10:00 AM with an opening address by the District Coordinating Director’s representative; Mr. Michael Sakyi.
The first agenda item was the election of the Chairperson for the Sub-Committee. Members nominated and unanimously elected Honorable Vincent Akorli as the Chairperson of the Environmental Health Sub-Committee. Following the election, the District Coordinating Director administered the oath of office to all the newly elected members of the Sub-Committee. This was a significant moment, formalizing their roles and responsibilities within the committee.
Honorable Vincent Akorli, the newly elected Chairperson, delivered her acceptance speech. He expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the members and outlined his commitment to leading the Sub-Committee effectively. He emphasized the importance of environmental health in the district and called for collaboration and dedication from all members.
The District Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Gordon Domi, provided a comprehensive sensitization session on the duties and responsibilities of the Sub-Committee. He highlighted the critical areas of focus, including sanitation, waste management, pollution control, and community health education. He stressed the need for proactive measures and community involvement to achieve the desired environmental health standards.
The Environmental Health Unit presented a detailed report on their activities for the first quarter of 2024. The report covered various initiatives, including Community clean-up campaigns, Inspection and regulation of waste disposal sites, Health education programs in schools and communities, Monitoring and control of waterborne diseases. The Sub-Committee members reviewed the report and provided feedback for further improvements.
In the closing remarks of the chairperson, Honorable Vincent Akorli reiterated the importance of the Sub-Committee’s work and encouraged members to remain dedicated to their duties. He thanked everyone for their active participation and contributions during the meeting. The meeting was adjourned, with members expressing optimism about the Sub-Committee’s role in enhancing environmental health in the Denkyembour District.
