Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Finance and Administration Sub-Committee Meeting

On Monday, 10th June 2024, the Finance and Administration Sub-committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly held its first meeting for the year 2024. The sub-committee which is mandated to oversee all issues relating to finance and administration of the assembly met for the first time to swear in members of the sub-committee and also discuss the trial balance of the assembly as at May 2024.
The meeting commenced with the election of the chairperson. Members of the sub-committee nominated and elected Honorable Kennedy Asante as the Chairperson by a unanimous vote. Following the election, the District Coordinating Director, Mr Aaron Otoo, administered the oath of office to the newly elected chairperson and the other members of the committee.
Honorable Asante Kennedy, in his acceptance remarks, expressed his gratitude for the confidence placed in him by the members. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and transparency in the sub-committee’s operations and outlined his commitment to ensuring that the committee meets its goals effectively.
The District Budget Analyst, Mr Samuel Ampoma, conducted a sensitization session on the duties and responsibilities of the Finance and Administration Sub-Committee. He detailed the key functions, which include overseeing the financial administration of the district, ensuring budget compliance, and evaluating financial reports and statements. Mr Ampoma also highlighted the importance of adherence to financial regulations and guidelines.
The sub-committee reviewed the trial balance for the period ending May 2024. Mr Ampoma presented the trial balance, noting significant observations and financial positions. The members discussed various aspects, including revenue collection, expenditure patterns, and budget variances. Concerns were raised about certain discrepancies, and it was agreed that a follow-up meeting would be scheduled to address these issues comprehensively. Total Revenue accrued as at May 2024 is GHC 447,159.00 with licenses contributing majorly to the total IGF. In relation to all fund sources, the district assembly spent GHC 666,451.68 as at May 2024.
The chairperson, Honorable Asante Kennedy, thanked all members for their active participation and insightful contributions. He reiterated the need for regular meetings and effective communication to ensure the sub-committee achieves its objectives.
The first meeting of the Finance and Administration Sub-Committee was successful, setting a foundation for proactive financial management and oversight in the Denkyembour District. The committee looks forward to future engagements aimed at enhancing the district’s financial administration.
