Information Services Department Sensitizes the Public on Ghana Jobs and Skills Project

The Ghana Jobs and Skills Project under the Ghana Enterprise Agency seek to provide entrepreneurship training to the youth of Ghanaians and early adults who have the potential to start a business. The project will train interested participants on three levels and will be based on standardized, quality-assured packages in different locations nationwide. The training will be undertaken using participatory approach conducive for adult learning and will also be district based and non-residential. The project will then provide start up grants for qualified applicants to commence business and is expected to culminate into job creation, job sustainability, business innovation and growth for enterprises owned by the youth in the country, leading to the reduction of social vices in the communities and the country at large.
The project necessitated a public sensitization campaign to educate the people within the communities on the project. The Information Services Department in collaboration with the NCCE and Ghana Enterprise Agency undertook some activities to sensitize the public.
The use of the information van was utilized to sensitize the people of Denkyembour District on the project. The van covered areas of Akwatia and its environs and areas of Boadua and its environs. Eight (8) Community Communication Centres in Akwatia and Boadua were deployed in sensitizing the public on the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project.
Letters were written to all Assembly members through the Presiding Member to inform them about the project and for onwards sensitization in their respective electoral areas. On Thursday 20th October 2022 a team also visited the Akwadum Market in Akwatia which is the biggest market in the district to undertake the sensitization on the project.
Letters were written to all churches through the Head of Local Council of Churches to inform them about the project for onward sensitization in their respective churches. Fliers on both the project and the Sensitization forum and circulated to all journalists within the district and also circulated on WhatsApp platforms to educate people on the project.
Sensitization was also done in all sub-committee meetings and committee meetings in the Denkyembour District Assembly which includes all assembly members, heads of departments and traditional leaders.
People were sensitized on the objective of the project and the qualifications needed for the project. The people were informed that one needs to be between the ages of 18 and 40 in order to qualify for the project. Also, the person should have a minimum of BECE Education Certificate Examination and must be willing to start up a business. School dropouts who are already in business will also be considered for the project. Special attention would be given to women and persons with disabilities.
As part of the sensitization, people were also educated that grants that would be given after the training could be used for purchase of equipment and machinery for the business, working capital for purchase of raw materials and consumables, payment for technical advisory services, training and subscriptions to platforms, payment for regulatory compliance amongst others.
Lastly, the people were invited for a public sensitization forum at the Denkyembour District Assembly Hall in Akwatia on Tuesday 25th October 2022 for an extensive engagement on the program and to commence registration.
