On Thursday, 14th August 2025, the Denkyembour District Assembly convened its first General Assembly Meeting for the year at the District Assembly Hall, Akwatia. The meeting brought together a distinguished gathering comprising the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Umar Ahmed Tutu, the Presiding Member, Hon. John Osborn Quansah, heads of departments, assembly members, former presiding members, members of the clergy, traditional authorities, and other invited guests. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on key developmental issues and assess progress on the Assembly’s agenda for the year.

Proceedings commenced with Hon. John Osborn Quansah presiding over the session and giving his welcome address to the house, after which Hon. Umar Ahmed Tutu delivered his sessional address. In his remarks, the DCE expressed appreciation to assembly members, traditional leaders, and the general public for their continuous support towards the district’s development agenda. He outlined significant achievements in various sectors, including infrastructure, where ongoing projects such as road reshaping, school building renovations, and construction of new CHPS compounds were progressing steadily. He also highlighted the Assembly’s investments in agriculture, citing the distribution of farming inputs under the Planting for Food and Jobs program and efforts to promote alternative livelihoods in mining-affected communities.

Hon. Tutu further touched on social interventions, noting the Assembly’s role in supporting vulnerable groups through the LEAP program and other welfare initiatives. In the health sector, he commended stakeholders for their collaborative response to public health challenges and pledged continued support for disease prevention and health promotion campaigns. On sanitation, the DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing environmental by-laws and intensifying clean-up exercises to improve public health standards.

The DCE also addressed revenue mobilization, urging assembly members and revenue officers to work diligently in expanding the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) base to finance developmental projects without over-reliance on central government disbursements. He called for unity among members to ensure the successful implementation of the Assembly’s plans for 2025, stressing that collective effort was vital to achieving meaningful progress.

Following the DCE’s address, the meeting considered and approved the Executive Committee Report, which outlined sub-committee recommendations on various developmental interventions. The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) subsequently held a sensitization session on electricity and water, providing participants with vital information on efficient usage, tariffs, and consumer rights. This was followed by a health session led by the Medical Superintendent of GCD Hospital, who educated members on preventive healthcare measures and current health concerns within the district.

One of the key resolutions passed during the meeting was the decision to procure motorbikes for all assembly members to facilitate effective monitoring of projects and community engagement. The meeting concluded with discussions on other matters of importance under any other Business (AOB), where members were admonished to preach peace during the upcoming by-election.

The session ended on a positive note, with participants commending the Assembly’s leadership for fostering inclusiveness and prioritizing development needs across the district.
