Meeting of the Third General Assembly for Denkyembour District Assembly

On Wednesday 27th July 2021, the Denkyembour District Assembly held its second ordinary meeting of the General Assembly for the year 2021 at the District Assembly Hall. The meeting began with an opening prayer at around 10:00 am.
The Presiding Member for the assembly; Honourable Asante Kennedy, called the house to order and gave his opening address. He expressed his gratitude to all assembly members, the Member of Parliament, heads of departments, Nananom and all guests for honouring the invitation. He also appealed to the assembly members to give out their maximum cooperation during the meeting. He then took the house through a discussion on actions taken and recommendations from the previous meeting.
The Administrator for St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia; Rev. Father Abban was called to educate the house on the activities and operations of the hospital. He mentioned that the hospital has seen a massive facelift since the inception of his administration in 2017. He mentioned that additional beds have been procured to augment the already existing beds at the hospital. He also mentioned that the hospital has established an ultra-modern CT scan unit. Also, the hospital has a Blood Pressure unit open to all people for regular check-up. Management of the hospital was tasked to meet with the assembly over issues relating to building permit and operating permit.
The District Chief Executive for the Denkyembour District; Honourable Seth Birikorang Ofosu was called upon to deliver his sessional address to the house. He began by expressing his gratitude to all members present. He also expressed his deepest gratitude to all assembly members, heads of departments and Nananom for the respective roles they played in his second nomination and confirmation as District Chief Executive.
He centred his address on Finance, Security, Developmental Projects, Education, Health, Agriculture, Community and Social Development and the just ended general election. He stated that a total of Seven Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty-Seven Ghana Cedis and Seven Pesewas (GHC 776,367.07) was generated as at 30th June 2021 as against Seven Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Seven Ghana Cedis and Fifty Pesewas (GHC 789,127.50) representing 98.40%.
On issues of Agriculture, he stated sensitization was carried out in seven communities in the district namely Kusi, Apinamang, Soabe, Okumaning, Wenchi, Topremang and Takrowase. Also, fifty-six litres of fall army worm chemicals were distributed to three hundred and twenty-five (325) farmers in the district.
Lastly, he mentioned that the president of the republic of Ghana visited the district. He paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Wenchi; Daasebre Dr. Nyarko Asumadu Appiah and to inspect ongoing construction of Wenchi Town Roads. He also commissioned the New Gatte Farms, A poultry farm in the Denkyembour district under the One District One Factory Initiative (1D1F)
He then presented the report from the Executive Committee of the district to the members of the meeting. He mentioned reports from the seven sub-committees of the assembly. Some of the issues he raised pertained to finance and administration, development planning, justice and security, social services, sports and culture, the environment and works of the assembly.
In other matters, the District Registration Officer for National Identification Authority was called to also brief the house on the upcoming registration exercise within the district. He mentioned that from 8th to 16th November 2021, there would be issuance of cards to Ghanaians who registered during the mass registration but could not receive their cards. From 17th November 2021 onwards, there would be continuation of the issuance of the cards to applicants. From 29th November 2021, people would be able to replace stolen or damaged cards.
The Chairman for the By-Laws committee of the assembly also presented the gazetted by-laws to the assembly.
