Denkyembour District Assembly Observes 2024 Green Ghana Day Celebration

On Friday 7th June 2024, the Denkyembour District Assembly in collaboration with the District NADMO and Forestry Commission, organized the 2024 Green Ghana Celebration to promote environmental sustainability and address the adverse effects of mining activities within the district. The event, which was celebrated under the theme ‘Growing for a Greener Tomorrow’, focused on reclaiming mined-out fields by planting 3,000 tree seedlings. Another objective was to plant trees in the Akim Wenchi Township which would serve as windbreaks and reduce the impact of heavy windstorms that caused destruction in the township. The District Coordinating Director served as the special guest, emphasizing the importance of tree planting and encouraging citizens to engage in afforestation efforts within their respective environs.

The primary objectives of the 2024 Green Ghana Celebration were to reclaim mined-out fields, Promote environmental sustainability and engage the community. A total of 3,000 tree seedlings were planted during the event. These seedlings were carefully selected to suit the local ecosystem and support reforestation efforts in the district. The choice of species considered factors such as adaptability to the local climate, ecological significance, and potential economic benefits.

The Green Ghana Celebration also actively engaged citizens, community leaders, and stakeholders from various sectors. The event served as a platform to educate participants about the importance of tree planting and its positive impact on the environment.
