The Denkyembour District Assembly successfully inaugurated four area councils within the district on the 10th and 11th of July 2024. This significant event marked the formal establishment of these councils, which include all elected Assembly members and unit committee members of the electoral areas within the respective councils. The inauguration ceremonies were led by a team from the District Assembly, comprising the District Planning Officer, District Works Engineer, District Information Officer, and the District Director for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

The inauguration ceremony began with the Oseawuo Area Council and continued on Okumaning Area Council on the first day and ended with the Mmo-Dwenase Area Council and Akwatia Urban Council on the second day. All events commenced with opening remarks by the District Works Engineer; Mr Davor Wonder Salami, who emphasized the importance of the area councils in local governance and community development.

Following the opening remarks, the District Director for NCCE; Mr Ernest Kwami Billy conducted a sensitization session. During this session, members were educated on their duties and responsibilities, highlighting the significance of their roles in ensuring effective governance and the development of their respective communities.

The District Planning Officer; Mr Mohammed Baba Abdulai then led the members through the oath of office, formally inducting them into their roles.

A question and answer session was undertaken where members of the assembly and unit committees were encouraged to ask questions and raised concerns in their line of duty. Majority of the questions focused on how the councils would raise revenue for themselves and how to address any challenge that may accompany revenue mobilization.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from the District Information Officer, who reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the area councils in their operations.

The inauguration of the four area councils in Denkyembour District marks a significant step in strengthening local governance and promoting community development. The ceremonies were well-organized and provided the newly inducted members with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
