Denkyembour District Assembly Holds 2024 PWD Support Programme

On 22nd August 2024, the Denkyembour District Assembly organized the 2024 Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Support Program at the District Assembly Hall in Akwatia. This initiative aimed to empower selected individuals with disabilities by providing them with essential items and financial support to establish sustainable businesses. The program also extended assistance to PWDs who needed financial aid for their education.

The event commenced with an opening address by the Chairperson of the Social Services Sub-Committee, Hon. Mabel Gyaesaayor. She emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to improving the lives of PWDs within the district and highlighted the significance of the support being offered. Hon. Gyaesaayor stressed the importance of utilizing these resources effectively to ensure long-term sustainability.

The District Director for Social Welfare and Community Development, Mrs. Mabel Twumwaa Acheampong, followed with her remarks. She outlined the criteria used to select the beneficiaries and the goals of the program. Mrs. Acheampong encouraged the recipients to use the items and funds prudently to improve their livelihoods, emphasizing the social welfare department’s ongoing support in monitoring and guiding the beneficiaries.

Hon. Seth Birikorang Ofosu, the District Chief Executive, also addressed the gathering. He reiterated the Assembly’s dedication to inclusivity and the empowerment of vulnerable groups, particularly PWDs. Hon. Ofosu acknowledged the challenges faced by PWDs in the district and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to addressing these challenges through such programs. He also called upon the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities provided and assured them of continued support from the District Assembly.

Following the addresses, the symbolic presentation of items and cash donations was made to the selected beneficiaries. These items included tools and equipment for various trades, educational materials, and funds to cover school fees. The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and pledged to use the support to improve their lives and contribute to the community.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Hon. Mabel Gyaesaayor, who thanked all participants for their involvement and encouraged the beneficiaries to remain resilient and focused on achieving their goals. She reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting PWDs and other vulnerable groups in the district. There were distribution of chest freezers, fufu machines, containers, sewing and industrial machines and financial support to about sixty (60) persons with disabilities.

The 2024 PWD Support Program marks a significant step in the Denkyembour District Assembly’s efforts to promote inclusivity and empower persons with disabilities, ensuring their active participation in the socio-economic development of the district.
