Denkyembour District Assembly Holds Social Services Sub-Committee Meeting

On Monday 10th June 2024, Denkyembour District Assembly held its first Social Services Sub-committee meeting at the District Assembly Hall. The Social Services sub-committee is a statutory sub-committee with its mandate set out in the Local Governance Act (Act 936) which is obliged to address all issues related to social welfare, health, education and other related social services.

The meeting commenced with an opening statement by the District Coordinating Director, who highlighted the importance of the Social Services Sub-Committee in enhancing the welfare of the district’s residents. The first item on the agenda was the election of the chairperson. With a unanimous decision, Honorable Mabel Gyaesaayor was elected as the chairperson of the sub-committee. Following the election, the District Coordinating Director administered the oath of office to the newly elected chairperson and other members of the sub-committee. The members pledged to serve with dedication and uphold the principles of the assembly.

Honorable Mabel Gyaesaayor, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in her by the members. She emphasized her commitment to working collaboratively with all members to achieve the sub-committee’s goals. He also outlined his vision for the sub-committee, focusing on improving the social welfare and community development within the district.

The Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Madam Mabel Twumwaa Acheampong, provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the sub-committee. She highlighted key areas such as monitoring and evaluating social service delivery, addressing community needs, and ensuring the effective implementation of social policies. She also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other stakeholders to enhance the impact of the sub-committee’s work.

The members engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the plans for the year. Key initiatives included monitoring of schools and health centers and community outreach programs. Plans were made to conduct community sensitization programs on health, education, and social welfare services to enhance community engagement and awareness.

In the closing remarks of the chairperson, she thanked all members for their active participation and valuable contributions during the meeting. She reiterated her commitment to leading the sub-committee towards achieving its objectives and called for continued cooperation among all members.

The first meeting of the Social Services Sub-Committee of the Denkyembour District Assembly was successfully held, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to enhance social services in the district.
