Denkyembour District Assembly Staff Welfare Association Organizes Seminar on Land Acquisition

On Wednesday, April 26th, 2023, the Denkyembour District Assembly Staff Welfare Association organized a seminar on the topic “Land Acquisition to Development: What Prospective Developers Must Know.” The seminar aimed to educate its members on the essential aspects of land acquisition and development in Ghana. The resource person for the seminar was Engr. Davor Wonder, the District Engineer for the Denkyembour District Assembly.

The Seminar began with an opening remarks from the Chairman for the association; Mr. Bernard Amelorku. He expressed his gratitude to all members for coming to the seminar and mentioned that it was going to be very educative and interactive.

Engr. Davor Wonder; the resource person for the seminar was introduced to the house. He then began the seminar by discussing the Land Tenure System in Ghana. He explained the various land tenure systems in Ghana, including the customary, stool, family, and state lands. Engr. Wonder emphasized that developers must understand the type of land they intend to acquire to avoid any legal disputes in the future.

He went ahead to elaborate on Land Acquisition Procedure in Ghana. Engr. Wonder explained the processes involved in acquiring land in Ghana, including the registration of land with the Lands Commission and the payment of necessary fees. He also highlighted the importance of conducting due diligence before acquiring land and the need for developers to seek legal advice to avoid fraudulent transactions.

The final part of his lecture focused on how to obtain building permit. Engr. Wonder emphasized the importance of obtaining a building permit before commencing any construction. He highlighted the documents required to obtain a building permit, including site plans, architectural drawings, and structural drawings. Engr. Wonder also explained the various stages involved in obtaining a building permit, including the submission of documents and site inspections.

The Patron of the association who doubles as the District Coordinating Director the Assembly; Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Gafaru was also called upon to give a very short closing address. He expressed his profound gratitude to all members for joining and to the executive body for organizing such an educative seminar for members. He then pleaded to members to pay their dues and other commitment for more of such programs to be organized. He also urged all members to involve themselves actively in the upcoming Health Walk.

In conclusion, the seminar on “Land Acquisition to Development: What Prospective Developers Must Know” was insightful and informative. The Denkyembour District Assembly Staff Welfare Association members gained a better understanding of the essential aspects of land acquisition and development in Ghana. Engr. Davor Wonder’s expertise and experience in the field made the seminar engaging and interactive, with members actively participating in the discussion. Overall, the seminar was a success and provided valuable information to its attendees.
